My New Year's Resolution

I've been fascinated by the entertainment industry for many, many, MANY years. I've dabbled here and there, with printing mini guidebooks, fansites, fundraising, background acting, etc. But, this year, 2023, I'm vowing to become more involved. I love the excitement of being on the lot of a TV or movie studio. It's magical! And, I want to have a positive impact on the whole world. I want this so bad! I am not going to sit on the sidelines any longer! But, where to begin?...

How To Become a TV or Film Producer

Becoming a TV or film producer typically involves a combination of education, experience, and networking. Here are some steps you can take to pursue a career as a producer:

  1. Get an education: A degree in film or TV production, or a related field such as communications, can be helpful in learning the technical and creative skills necessary for producing.

  2. Gain experience: Start by working as a production assistant or intern on film or TV sets, or by making your own short films. This will give you an understanding of the production process and help you build connections in the industry.

  3. Network: Meet other professionals in the industry, such as directors, writers, and other producers. Attend film festivals, workshops, and networking events to make connections and learn about job opportunities.

  4. Develop a portfolio: Create a portfolio of your work, including any short films, commercials, or other projects you have produced.

  5. Find a job: Look for job openings in TV or film production companies, or reach out to independent producers looking for help.

  6. Build a reputation: Build a good reputation by producing quality work, meeting deadlines, and building a network of contacts. As you gain experience, you may be able to take on more responsibilities and eventually become a producer.

It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, persistence and patience to become a producer, but if you are passionate about the industry, it can be a rewarding career.

Another School Shooting - The Texas School Shooting in Uvalde, Texas

Today's school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, is so hard to bear. To think that 19 children, aged 7-9, will never see their lives unfold is utterly tragic. And, there was absolutely no reason for this. Some people demand more gun restrictions. Others say we need more mental health awareness and treatment. No doubt we need an all-of-the-above approach.

I pray that their parents can have some peace and receive some modicum of justice after this horrendous event.

Why 'Justice League' Star Joe Morton Thinks Fans Should Have More of a Say

The actor reflects on Zack Snyder restoring his storyline as Dr. Silas Stone, and weighs in on the power of fan campaigns: "It’s kind of like voting."
[This story contains spoilers for Zack Snyder's Justice League.]

Now that Zack Snyder’s Justice League has finally been released, viewers are understanding exactly what Snyder meant when he called Cyborg’s (Ray Fisher) storyline “the heart” of his movie. Of course, an integral component of Cyborg’s arc involves Joe Morton’s Dr. Silas Stone, who was first introduced in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. After a devastating car accident took the life of his wife, Dr. Elinore Stone (Karen Bryson), Morton’s character channeled the incalculable power of an alien technology to prevent his son Victor from suffering the same fate. In doing so, he created an advanced human cyborg with a laundry list of superpowers, as well as the ability to manipulate technology at will.

Shaking Up The Movie Distribution Model

As movie theaters sit empty during the coronavirus pandemic, some films are being released direct to streaming services and digital platforms, shaking up a distribution model that's been in place for decades. WSJ explains.

Priorities

So, I just heard a news report in which Governor Newsom says that California has a crisis with affordable housing and homelessness. Am I wrong to feel that maybe we should put limits on unbridled illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, and pretending that multiple caravans with upwards of 15,000 migrants soon to arrive at our border is not a crisis? Maybe we can all agree there should be limits, at least until we get our domestic s#it together!

A Turning Point

Why do many immigrants escape tyrannical governments, appreciate our quality of life, and our freedoms? But, people born in this country often seem to not appreciate the vast opportunities and appreciate our freedoms and are striving so hard to leap into the democratic/socialist idealist/utopian and over-controlled big government engineered by others. Do we really believe that those in Washington know more about what's best for the country than we do? They're supposed to represent us, not engineer a massive government to oversee our every action. Unless that's the government we want.

Fake News

Isn't that sad that in order to get an honest perspective on what options there are regarding anything, we have to seek news from outside the U.S. Or, at least, put together the truth by watching various sources from this country. How many people have the time or the inclination to do that? That's why many (most?) people form their opinions based on a) the opinions of their friends and families b) the slanted commentary of whatever news or pseudo-news they and their peers watch. I would urge everyone to not allow themselves to be brainwashed. Seek the truth and cultivate an opinion based on the truth.

Let's Stick With Capitalism

Many young people believe that socialism is a good thing. Case-in-point: Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a new member of congress. She believes there should caps on how wealthy a person can be and there should be taxes as high as 70%.

While Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is seemingly well-intentioned, there are no reasonable examples of socialism or communism ever working to the extent capitalism has worked in order to help the most people succeed and live peacefully. We're a rich country and can afford some safety nets and other programs to help people achieve the American Dream. But, to have unrestricted immigration with caps on rising up the ladder with massive taxation, excess legislation, and unlimited free stuff for everyone regardless of the effort they expend is simply the road to ruin. Not only is it not practical from a longterm financial perspective, but giving away free stuff often zaps people's motivation to do better. I like the system we have. With some slight adjustments, we can help the underserved. But, please, none of this fundamentally transforming this nation rhetoric.

How We Destroy Lives Today | Will the Covington Catholic High School fiasco change social media?

I pray, for the sake of common decency, that we will collectively try more to treat others with the same patience and respect we desire for ourselves and our loved ones. No matter how much our country has become course and uncivilized, we should not rush to judgment merely based on whatever video clips (taken out of context) we are fed. There are those who are eager to condemn others merely based on their appearance or attire. How would we like it if we were the ones that wore a hat that someone disliked and our families then faced death threats. We shouldn't be suckered into condemning others, especially minors, merely because their skin color and hat triggers a sense that they are sub-human and not worthy of finding out what the facts are. We live in a hyper-connected world in which those with an agenda and those who create click bait are seemingly holding all the cards. But, they do only if we let them. I know we're all busy people. But, remember "Innocent until proven guilty." The next time we hear some news that causes us to be outraged, please take a deep breath and seek out various sources of news before any more of this nonsense ensues. And, please, no more rushing to judgment, no more telling people to punch or kill people. It makes you look like a fool. We're better than that!
