Priorities

So, I just heard a news report in which Governor Newsom says that California has a crisis with affordable housing and homelessness. Am I wrong to feel that maybe we should put limits on unbridled illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, and pretending that multiple caravans with upwards of 15,000 migrants soon to arrive at our border is not a crisis? Maybe we can all agree there should be limits, at least until we get our domestic s#it together!

A Turning Point

Why do many immigrants escape tyrannical governments, appreciate our quality of life, and our freedoms? But, people born in this country often seem to not appreciate the vast opportunities and appreciate our freedoms and are striving so hard to leap into the democratic/socialist idealist/utopian and over-controlled big government engineered by others. Do we really believe that those in Washington know more about what's best for the country than we do? They're supposed to represent us, not engineer a massive government to oversee our every action. Unless that's the government we want.

Fake News

Isn't that sad that in order to get an honest perspective on what options there are regarding anything, we have to seek news from outside the U.S. Or, at least, put together the truth by watching various sources from this country. How many people have the time or the inclination to do that? That's why many (most?) people form their opinions based on a) the opinions of their friends and families b) the slanted commentary of whatever news or pseudo-news they and their peers watch. I would urge everyone to not allow themselves to be brainwashed. Seek the truth and cultivate an opinion based on the truth.

Let's Stick With Capitalism

Many young people believe that socialism is a good thing. Case-in-point: Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a new member of congress. She believes there should caps on how wealthy a person can be and there should be taxes as high as 70%.

While Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is seemingly well-intentioned, there are no reasonable examples of socialism or communism ever working to the extent capitalism has worked in order to help the most people succeed and live peacefully. We're a rich country and can afford some safety nets and other programs to help people achieve the American Dream. But, to have unrestricted immigration with caps on rising up the ladder with massive taxation, excess legislation, and unlimited free stuff for everyone regardless of the effort they expend is simply the road to ruin. Not only is it not practical from a longterm financial perspective, but giving away free stuff often zaps people's motivation to do better. I like the system we have. With some slight adjustments, we can help the underserved. But, please, none of this fundamentally transforming this nation rhetoric.
